I'll be visiting your fair city 20-24 April.

Also inside...

Critters

Holy Week, taxes, and other inevitables

And a link.

Right. Conference runs Mon-Thurs 4/21-24, in a hotel in Philadelphia. Sometime in there, there'll probably be a conference banquet. Otherwise, evenings are free. Are there any husimians in the greater Philly area any more? More to the point, do they want to see me?

Go find a hammer. Then find a camera. Pose the hammer in some interesting way, take a picture, post-process it to taste, and to conform to the rules posted above, and share it with us. It'll be fun.

So, what else? Things around the old homestead are down to a dull roar. Rusti, the new-to-us Jack Russell Terrier, is a very smart dog, and she's figuring out her place in the family, and what kinds of things are likely to be expected of her.

For her, eating is a social activity. So if we just put her bowl down and walk away, she ignores it, more or less. Somebody needs to watch her eat.

She's getting along well with Rocky, a nearly 4 year-old viszla who's been with us a year and a half now. They play together pretty well, with only a little jealousy and not wanting to share their toys. They both love to chase the laser pointer around the yard at night; Rusti will spin in circles trying to catch the dot of light.

Relations between Rusti and Silas, our cat, are still strained. Silas has been living in the attic since the first night Rusti was here and she chased him up the stairs. He comes down at night to eat, and we put a catbox in the attic for him. I miss my lap kitty. He also comes around at 4am to climb on top of us and purr. Or to do this:

Easter is coming up already. So I need to do our taxes this weekend, more or less. Then choir stuff both Monday and Tuesday, as much church as I could possibly want Weds-Sun. Another work week following Easter, and another weekend to clean up the details on the taxes. And then 2 successive weekends with choir things on the Saturdays (singing for the diocesan confirmation service, and then a rehearsal with a visiting choir we're doing a joint service with on 4/13).

I do hope I've had enough withheld this year; las year I ended up owing the feds a bundle, and some penalties. With the stock market going down this year, though, it's probably OK. There's no way to tell, though, in time to do the right thing (filing estimated taxes).

I'm having a few ideas of places to go with my nano. If I may say so, this one is somewhat better than the others, if only because it kinda sorta has a plot. Characters, I seem to be able to do. One reader picks fairly mercilessly on my "narrator's voice", which is very useful feedback.

In case nobody else links to it, courtesy of R343L: Surreal Art Update. There's some cool stuff there.

Watching a dag eat? As you yourself have pointed by greyrat (2.00 / 0) #1 Fri Mar 14, 2008 at 04:11:48 PM EST
out, that takes about twenty seconds.

This one... by ana (2.00 / 0) #2 Fri Mar 14, 2008 at 04:17:45 PM EST
takes at least a minute or two, and would happily spend all day grazing at her food. But Rocky is standing by, pointedly not doing anything until the food seems unguarded, at which point it evaporates.

As MNS put it: "You gonna eat that? Looks like puppy food!"

And a tip of the hat to mh for sharing the cartoon.

Is a neat theme (and I have a vague idea if I would only remember to actually take it) -- but I'm going to whine for an extension anyway. Here's my reasoning: It's the day after the WFC is due. Not that it's such a burden to produce two works in short order (and the photo is the less burdensome of the two), but the FP poll-space will presumably be occupied for that week -- so perhaps we can push the PFC deadline until the WFC Eye Ex proceedings have concluded?
