of performing BWV 205 in Houston near the end of hurricane season.

This is one of Bach's secular cantatas, the title of which in English is roughly "Aeolus Appeased".  It was written for the birthday celebration of a Dr. August Müller.  My crude, modern plot synopsis is:

Aeolus: Summer's over, time for me to go nuts and fuck shit up.
Zephyr, Pomona and Pallas: C'mon, it's this dude's birthday, don't be a dick.
Aeolus: Oh, alright, FINE.

Amazing. Bach had a sense of humor.

Anyway, I feel like we might be tempting fate by doing this near the beginning of October, but what will be will be.  And we get the lovely choral experience of getting to sing "Zerreißet, zersprenget, zertümmert..." several times, with the odd melisma thrown in for fun.  The other, much bigger work on the program is BWV 225 (sorry to throw these numbers at you, but it's easier to remember those than the actual German titles), which is fifteen minutes of non-stop double chorus motet fun.  I'm trying to learn both by osmosis, listening to recordings on an endless loop while at work.

Five minutes after seeing the news about the iPhone price drop, I got an invitation to join a F8 group called "Steve Jobs Personally Pwn3d Me", created by my friend Ames who had just bought an iPhone last week.  That sucks, dude, but there's a reason why you wait to buy these things until a year after they come out.

By the time my current phone contract runs out, they might be cheap enough to think about getting one.  If only they were 3G and not Edge...

Update [2007-9-7 7:29:45 by riceowlguy]: I know it's the nature of the web, but I'm amused that all the comments on this diary were about my offhand iPhone reference and not my long, detailed story about my musical endeavors.

He needs to wait +1 week after his contract runs out.   NOT sign up when they're begging him to sign a new contract again in the spring.

...bought an iPhone a week or two ago.  he made a call and got a credit for the price difference.  it's all about timing, i guess.

and seriously...being pissed because you bought something leading edge and had the price drop N months later?  c'mon...we all should know better by now.  especially when it comes to apple.  that's why i'm not even MENTIONING the ipod touch, or as i call it "the iPhone minus the annoying phone bit."

Laurea got one, saw the price drop and said, meh.  Things depreciate.

Granted, it's a dick move.  That $200 could have bought a lot of food.

But if you buy an apple product, you have the money to buy an apple product, apple tax included.

Me, I'm going to hold off on the iPod until, say, next year.

I am the only husi-an who has to worry about the price drop.

I'm ok with the credit, I am going to get leopard in October anyway...

You know what is funny? I voted for McCain in 2000 and Obama in 2008. (And let's not forget Edwards in 1998.)
