You can build the most elegant fountain in the world, but eventually a winged rat will be using it as a drinking bowl.

prediction: Tigers in 4 by MillMan (4.00 / 1) #2 Fri Oct 20, 2006 at 02:54:34 AM EST
If they let the Cards win any games, they should be embarrassed.

When I'm imprisoned as an enemy combatant, will you blog about it?

The problem with no yank-met-sox in the final is by cam (4.00 / 1) #3 Fri Oct 20, 2006 at 08:11:50 AM EST
no-one will watch it. Without New York watching, baseball is as demographically popular as hockey.

Here are the actual historical TV ratings for the world series:

The only thing that sticks out to me is the dramatic overall drop since the strike in '94. Anger over that coupled with Fox's horrid coverage style are the likely reasons.

Check out 2000 by cam (2.00 / 0) #6 Fri Oct 20, 2006 at 02:30:00 PM EST
that was the subway series wasnt it? I remember reading something that New Yorkers watched that series heavily, but no-one else did. Probably best if the Yankees are in the final for an out of state team to be the challenger so the rest of the country watches the game to barrack against the Yankees.

yeah that is what happened by MillMan (4.00 / 1) #8 Fri Oct 20, 2006 at 05:14:15 PM EST
it might have been further damaged by the fact that everyone knew the Yankees were going to win, and by 2000, everyone outside of their fan base had had enough of them winning every year

When I'm imprisoned as an enemy combatant, will you blog about it?

a mets yankees series, why would anybody in 90% of the country watch that? detroit and st. louis are both strong sports cities. I bet viewership will be pretty good if the series is good.

Cards in 6 by Bob Abooey (2.00 / 0) #4 Fri Oct 20, 2006 at 08:36:26 AM EST
The Cards got there by playing old skool baseball. Look for them to take the girlie-men tigers to task.

You read it here first.

If I send a "Detroit Tigers 2006 World Series Champions" t-shirt to the Cleveburgh YMCA, attention Bob Abooey, that will make it to you right?

P-Burg Represent! by thenick (4.00 / 1) #7 Fri Oct 20, 2006 at 02:54:49 PM EST
Jim Leyland and Tigers in 4.

And watch out next year, because the Toledo Mudhens, the Triple A Tigers affiliate, won the Governors Cup for the second year in a row. They've got a solid team and depth in the minors. Gone are the days when I can say that watching the Hens this year will be much cheaper than watching them next year when they are moved up to Detroit.

is that I'm probably a bigger Cards fan than you. I really am happy for the Cards.
